Citizens Academy

The Citizen's Academy is an eleven-week program for Westfield residents to receive first-hand experience in various aspects of police work. The class meets once a week in the evenings. Participants will tour the county jail, dispatch, and training center and learn about patrol and investigation operations. They will also participate in evidence processing, emergency driving, patrol stops, firearms training, defense tactics, Taser and K9 demonstrations, and active shooter simulations.

To be eligible, you must fill out an application and pass a background test. Space is limited.

Citizens Academy applications will re-open in mid-2026 for the Fall 2026 cohort.

  • Who may participate: Westfield residents aged 21 years or older with no criminal history.
