Need to request a copy of a report? Email Records
Police Reports
The public may obtain a copy of a police report via email at no charge by emailing Records. The full fee schedule is here. A public copy is different from the actual report in that no suspect information is released in the public copy unless there is an arrest. Also, the name and age of the victim of a sex crime is not released. The public copy will offer information concerning the date, time, and location of the incident; a brief description of the factual circumstances surrounding the incident and the nature of the agency's response; and a general description of any injuries, property, or weapons involved, if any. Non-confidential public court records may be found on the Case Search Page. If you have any questions, contact the Hamilton County Clerk's Office at 317-776-9629. Crash Reports
Crash reports may be purchased with a credit card from the website that the State uses Buy Crash Website. A crash report may also be purchased by mailing a request and a check or money order for the state-mandated minimum fee of $5 to the Westfield Police Department, 17535 Dartown Road, Westfield, IN 46074. We can also accept credit card payments over the phone at 317-804-3200 and will email you a copy of the report. If you need a follow-up or to speak to an officer regarding a crash report or investigation, please contact dispatch at 317-773-1282.
Alarm Permits
We do not require permits for alarm systems. Make sure they have the correct dispatch number on file: 317-773-1300 or 317-773-1282.
Background Checks
The public may obtain background checks free of charge during business hours. We cannot complete a background check without the permission of that person. They must present their driver's license or other state-issued ID. It is important to note that this background check is limited to Westfield Police Department jurisdiction only. Crime Statistics
Neighborhood-level crime statistics can be viewed online through City Protect, formally known as CrimeReports.com. This tool provides near-real-time reporting and access to crime maps and helps to raise community awareness. The City Protect website gathers information from the Hamilton County Public Safety Communications Center and plots the data on a map for the entire Hamilton County. Addresses are given as hundred blocks rather than specific locations to protect the victim's privacy. With a click of a mouse, users can view general information about each incident.
