Business Operations

The Deputy Chief of Business Operations provides essential functions for the Westfield Fire Department. These include maintaining effective communication with the Fire Chief, City officials, community organizations, and other agencies, and collecting and analyzing valuable information on operations, current procedures, and response readiness.

Monitor the department's budget by directing and controlling department activities such as personnel recruitment, equipment purchasing, and expenditure control.

Planning and organizing all department operational functions, developing plans designed to maintain operational efficiency and responsiveness, and maintaining the department's dispatch, records, and computer needs.

The Deputy Chief of Business Operations responds to emergency runs, acting in a command and/or general staff position on planned and unplanned events affecting our neighborhood. Assisting with complex fire investigations and assisting with situational issues as they arise.

The Business Operations Division is comprised of the following divisions, where the Deputy Chief oversees each of these divisions:

  • Logistics and Maintenance Division: Providing in-house apparatus and equipment testing, repairs, preventive maintenance, and records management results in significant cost savings to the city. This also puts the Logistics Division in a better position to provide technical assistance relating to equipment purchases and outfitting new emergency response vehicles. The Logistics Division is also responsible for obtaining and distributing items such as supplies, uniforms, equipment, and tools for the four fire stations and 140 fire department employees.
  • Planning Division: This division is responsible for coordinating special event planning in Westfield and planning during emergency operations. It is also the liaison with emergency dispatch, CAD programming, and the administration of the fire records management reporting system.
  • Fire and Life Safety Division: Provides inspection services/plan review for commercial businesses within the community. The Fire Marshal also provides information and training regarding Fire Prevention and Safety, State and Local burning regulations, and the Indiana Fire Code.
