Midland Trace Trail Gap Project Completed

Westfield, IN (April 10, 2024) - The City of Westfield Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments completed the Midland Trails Gap Project in 2023. 

The goal of this project was to pave several key locations that had been missing, accomplish better connectivity under US 31, and make the Midland a continuous trail on the west side of US 31. 

Some of these key locations include:

• 156th Street under US 31 connecting to Cool Creek Park (Monon/Midland loop)
• Westfield Boulevard under US 31 connecting to Cool Creek (Monon/Midland loop)
• Midland Trail from US 31 west to the Monon Trail
• Midland Trail along 175th Street, connecting Quaker Park to the Midland west of Austrian Pine Way
• Spring Mill Perimeter Trail, linking Mulberry Farms to the Spring Mill Station development

The Midland Trace Trail follows the abandoned Central Indiana Railway, which runs parallel to and just south of State Road 32. Westfield's portion of the Midland Trail is approximately 4.8 miles at this time and once fully completed, will stretch for 8 miles.

"Westfield is a fantastic place to live, but we don't have mountains or oceans. Our trail system is our beachfront property, and with these essential connections completed, we now have over 100 miles of trails within the city. I am committed to expanding our trail network to be one of the best in Indiana," stated Mayor Scott Willis.
