'Quaker History'

Simon Moon was among the earliest settlers to shape both the physical landscape and civic life of what would become Westfield. Through farming, faith and public service, Moon helped establish the foundations of a community that would continue to grow after his death, carried forward by his family and their convictions.

Asa Bales played a central role in the early development of Westfield and surrounding Indiana communities. A Quaker settler, landowner and outspoken abolitionist, Bales helped shape the town’s physical footprint while also placing it within broader anti-slavery efforts of the 19th century.

Long before Westfield formally emerged as a town, families like the Barkers were already shaping the land, the culture, and the values of the community. Nicholas Barker was one of those early settlers whose quiet determination and commitment to family and faith left a lasting imprint on the area.
